How to Get from Kusadasi Cruise Port to Ephesus (2026)

By Akın — licensed taxi driver at Kusadasi central stand · Updated 2026/08 · Prices valid for the 2026 season

Short answer Ephesus is 18 km from Kusadasi cruise port — 20–25 minutes by car. Your options: a private taxi (fixed €80 round trip per car with Akın Taxi, waiting included), the dolmuş minibus (a few euros per person, ~45–60 min with a change in Selçuk), or a ship excursion ($80–120 per person). For two or more people with limited port hours, the private taxi is usually the best value and the least stress.

Where your ship docks — and where the taxis are

Cruise ships dock at Ege Port, right in the centre of Kusadasi. You walk off the ship, through the small terminal and the shopping arcade, and out of the port gate onto Atatürk Boulevard. The central taxi stand is about three minutes on foot to your right, opposite the historic Öküz Mehmed Paşa Caravanserai — the big stone building you can't miss. Akın's stand is exactly there. If you've booked ahead, he waits at the port gate itself with a name sign, so you don't even walk that far.

The four ways to get to Ephesus

1. Private taxi (fixed price)

Door to door, leaves when you want, waits while you visit, brings you back to the gangway with time to spare. Akın Taxi's 2026 fixed prices are €50 one way or €80 round trip including 2–3 hours of waiting — per car, up to 7 passengers, so a family of five pays the same as a solo traveller. The car is a licensed yellow Fiat Doblo minivan with air-conditioning and proper luggage space, and your driver is a retired police officer who served Kusadasi for many years — which guests tell us matters when travelling with kids or alone.

2. Dolmuş (shared minibus)

The budget option. From the Kusadasi dolmuş station (a 10–15 minute walk from the port), minibuses run to Selçuk roughly every 20–30 minutes; from Selçuk you take a second minibus or a short taxi to the Ephesus lower gate. Cost is a few euros per person; total time is 45–60 minutes each way plus waiting. It's a perfectly good adventure if you have a long port day and don't mind the transfers — but you must watch the clock, and the last leg back can be crowded when several ships are in.

3. Ship excursion

Booked on board, typically $80–120 per person, in a group of 30–50 with a guide. The advantage is the ship's guarantee — if the bus is late, the ship waits. The disadvantages: group pace, fixed departure time, and usually a compulsory carpet or leather "demonstration" stop that eats an hour of your day.

4. Private shuttle sold at the port

Various companies sell seats in minibuses on ship days. Prices and quality vary; departure often waits until the vehicle fills. Ask exactly when it leaves and when it returns before paying.

A realistic timeline for a cruise day

  1. 08:30 — Ship cleared, you're at the port gate. Akın is waiting with a sign.
  2. 08:55 — Drop-off at the Ephesus upper gate. Tickets, then a downhill walk through the site.
  3. 11:15 — Meet at the lower gate car park. Water is in the car.
  4. 11:45 — Optional: House of the Virgin Mary (15 min drive, 45 min visit) or straight back.
  5. 12:30–13:00 — Back in Kusadasi with hours to spare for the bazaar, a swim at Ladies Beach or lunch by the harbour.

Full-day guests usually add Şirince for lunch and wine tasting and are back on board around 16:00 for a 17:00–18:00 all-aboard.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Ephesus from Kusadasi cruise port?
About 18 km (11 miles) to the Ephesus lower gate — 20–25 minutes by taxi in normal traffic.
How much is a taxi from Kusadasi port to Ephesus in 2026?
With Akın Taxi it's a fixed €50 one way or €80 round trip including 2–3 hours of waiting, per car for up to 7 passengers. Metered street taxis vary; agree the price before you get in.
Is there a shuttle or bus from Kusadasi port to Ephesus?
There is no direct public bus from the port to Ephesus. The dolmuş (shared minibus) goes Kusadasi → Selçuk (about 30–40 min), then you take a second dolmuş or a short taxi ride to the gate — budget 45–60 minutes each way and some walking. Private shuttles are sold at the port on ship days.
How long do I need at Ephesus?
Two hours covers the main street from the upper gate to the Library of Celsus and the Grand Theatre. Add 45–60 minutes for the Terrace Houses (separate ticket) and 20 minutes for the museum-quality Ephesus Museum in Selçuk if you have time.
Which gate should I enter Ephesus from?
Enter at the upper (Magnesia) gate and walk downhill to the lower gate — you see everything in order and avoid the climb. A private driver drops you at the top and collects you at the bottom; buses usually can't.
How much is the Ephesus entrance fee in 2026?
Around €40–45 for the main site; the Terrace Houses are an extra ticket. Prices change each season — check at the gate or the official Turkish Museums site.
Will I make it back to my ship on time?
Yes if you plan around your all-aboard time. A private driver who works cruise days knows the timings; Akın plans backwards from your all-aboard with a safety margin. Never rely on the last dolmuş.
Can I combine Ephesus with the House of the Virgin Mary and Şirince in one port day?
Yes — with a private car it's the classic full day: Ephesus (2–2.5 h), Virgin Mary (45 min), Şirince (1.5 h for lunch). Akın's fixed price for all three is €150 per car with all waiting included.
